Settling in and getting to know each other

This half term we have been busy settling into Nursery, learning routines and making friends. Our topic has been 'All About Me' where we learned about the children's families and their likes and dislikes. We have also focused on the changing seasons, Autumn has provided us with so many fun and exciting learning opportunities.

Self Portrait

We looked closely at our facial features in the mirror to help us to draw our portrait.

Drawing myself

We tried hard to use colours which match our eye and hair colour.

Funny face pizza

We made some funny face pizzas using muffins. We arranged the toppings to look like a face!

Loose parts faces

We used loose parts to create face pictures.

My Family

We made extra special sparkly frames for the beautiful drawings that we created of our families. We are so proud of our display!

Blackberries

The children picked the blackberries from our school garden.

First we squashed the blackberries with a fork.

Then we made the crumble topping, we mixed together sugar and butter.

Added in some oats and gave it a good stir.

We took our crumble home to share with our families.

All about Autumn

The parents and children were amazing and collected lots of conkers, pine cones and acorns for us to explore at Nursery. We used them in maths for sorting and counting, and in our artwork for printing and conker rolling.

Exploring pumpkins

The children hammered golf tees into the pumpkin, this was a really good way of building up the children's fine and gross motor skills.

Conkers!

The children explored the conkers inside their spiky shells and then broke into them to find the shiny brown conkers.

We added some conkers and paint into a large tray and rolled it around to make some amazing patterns on our paper.

Dice game

The children rolled a dice and counted the correct amount of conkers into their bowls.

Fine motor skills

The children used large tweezers to grab the conkers and move them around the tray. It took a lot of focus and concentration!

Christmas Celebrations

Decorating!

The children helped to decorate the classroom.

The children made a Christingle with Anne and learnt what all of the pieces mean as they assembled them.

Christmas dinner

The children very much enjoyed being in the big hall with the rest of the school for their Christmas lunch

Nativity set

The children explored the Nativity set as we read the story to them. They liked learning all of the names and setting up the stable.

Amazing Animals

Our theme for this term has been 'Amazing Animals'.

Vets role play

The children explored our vets role play. They made the poorly animals feel better by taking good care of them.

Animal homes

We matched our pets to the homes that they like to live in.

We created a tally chart to see which pet is the most popular in our homes.

Special visitor

Miss Simpson bought in her pet snake 'Tony' to meet the children. They were fascinated by the way he moved around while Miss Simpson held him and asked questions about what he likes to eat.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Chinese lanterns

The children cut strips into paper and decorated them to make a lantern.

Chinese Dragon

We read the story of the Chinese Zodiac calendar, the children were fascinated by the Dragon and did some dragon themed collages.

Chinese Numerals

The children explored the Chinese symbols for numbers 1-10.

Spring rolls

The children helped to chop vegetables really small and rolled them inside filo pastry to make some tasty spring rolls. The children ate the spring rolls for snack dipped in soy and hoisin sauce; yummy!

Parade!

We watched an amazing video of a Chinese New Year parade that took place in Liverpool. This inspired us to do some dragon dancing like we saw in the video, the children has so much fun recreating the swaying head movement and waving their ribbons and scarves!
